Updated: September 27, 2026

This packing list helps make sure nothing important gets forgotten before an obstacle race or HYROX event. The list can be ticked off and printed, grouped into before the start, at the start, after the race and documents. If you are still unsure which clothing and footwear generally make sense, the gear page gives an overview before you pack your bag.

Before the start

  • Race clothing tried on and checked for fit
  • Shoes worn in, tread condition checked, see shoes
  • Entry documents and route to the venue checked
  • Weather forecast for race day checked
  • Gloves packed, if wanted, see gloves
  • Compression gear packed, if wanted, see compression
  • Extra layers planned for cold weather, see gear for winter
  • Alarm set with enough lead time for race day

  • Photo ID or entry confirmation within reach
  • Sunscreen for warm conditions
  • A small amount of cash or a card for the venue
  • A drink for before the start
  • Earplugs or headphones for the drive there, removed before the start

After the race

  • Dry shoes or sandals for the walk back to the car
  • Large bin bag or waterproof bag for wet, dirty kit
  • Towel to dry off
  • Wet wipes for a quick clean-up without a shower on site
  • Something to eat and drink afterwards
  • Basic first aid kit with plasters for minor scrapes
  • Spare bag for shoes, to keep the rest of the bag clean

Documents

  • Entry confirmation or organiser’s email
  • Photo ID or passport
  • Proof of sports or accident insurance, if applicable
  • Emergency contact written down or saved on your phone
  • For team entries, contact details of your teammates

This list covers the most common situations but does not replace the specific requirements of each organiser, for example regarding start times or documents to bring. If you are still unsure what clothing generally suits your race, clothing has more detail. For your next race, check the race calendar.

Frequently asked questions

When should I start packing?

What documents do I need to bring to the race?

Usually your entry confirmation, photo ID, and, if applicable, your race number or timing chip, unless these are handed out on site. Specifics are set out in each organiser's own information.

Can I print this list?

Yes, the list is designed to be printed and ticked off with a pen. It can also be ticked off digitally in your account.
